故事发生在1944年，第二次世界大战接近尾声，日本帝国主义在海外的攻势也成为强弩之末。历经八年战火荼毒的中国，就此也到了生死存亡的决定时刻。中美英三国策划对日寇发动联合反击，肩负着艰巨使命的美国飞虎队王牌飞行员卡恩驾驶P-40战斗机飞临滇西上空，谁知却遭到此前获悉情报的日本空军的狙击。经过一番对决，卡恩的飞机遭到重创，他也不得不跳伞落入了滇西的密林之中。日军阳光司令部旋即派兵展开地毯式搜索，而八路军游击队、美军伞兵特遣队、国民党远征军也分别开始了营救行动。
